Visiting Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Netherlands

For the art aficionados, Amsterdam is an ideal place to visit. It has a number of museums and art galleries scattered all over the city. One of them is the Van Gogh Museum, which is among my personal favorites. I visited this museum using my Museumkaart (Amsterdam Museum Card) which has a full one-year validity.

The Van Gogh Museum houses the largest collection of Vincent van Gogh's paintings in the world and offers a useful learning experience to art connoisseurs. Through the vast permanent collection, visitors can get a glimpse of the artist's developments and compare his paintings to works by other artists from the 19th century. Pretty impressive!

The museum also holds an extensive offer of exhibitions on various subjects from 19th century art history. Aside from the paintings of van Gogh, it also features various works of his contemporaries.

One of the interesting things about the museum is that van Gogh's ouvre is organized chronologically into five periods, each representing a different phase of his life and work: The Netherlands, Paris, Arles, Saint-Remy and Auvers-sur-Oise.

Public installation art is also often on display just outside the museum. An artwork inspired by the exhibition "Dreams of Nature - Symbolism from Van Gogh to Kandinsky" was installed when I went there.

How to Get to Van Gogh Museum
It is easy to reach the Van Gogh Museum as it is situated in the Amsterdam's Museum Quarter (Museumplein), between the Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk Museum. The museum entrance is at the Paulus Potterstraat 7.

You can take the tram number 2 and 5 from the Amsterdam Central Station. Should you opt to walk from the station, it will take you roughly 30 minutes to reach the museum.
