I was cleaning up my old external hard drive earlier today and found these funny animated gifs that I created from the first-ever group backpacking trip that I did with four backpacking "newbies" in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand way back in 2009. We all look so young in these photos. Classic!

A Funny Anecdote from this Backpacking Trip
This backpacking trip was especially memorable because of our hysterical misadventure at the Kuala Lumpur Sentral Terminal, blame it on sheer stupidity or lack of awareness. Whatever it was, it almost costed us time and money and very nearly missed the sleeper train that would take us to the border town of Hat Yai in Thailand.
I still remember everything that happened like it was yesterday. None of us bothered to double-check the schedule in our tickets and even took some time off eating in a restaurant at the second floor of the station. We only had the bad realization when I looked again at the tickets (thank God, I did!) and saw that the train was about to leave in a few minutes, leading us to panicky rush ourselves to the platform like nervous preys being chased by hungry predators. The adrenaline rush was through the roof.
I remember myself shouting at the top of my lungs like a lunatic, “Please stop the train!”, which actually paid off, as the station guards managed to put his hand signals into action to stop the moving train for us. Phew! Like a thriller movie of some sorts, we managed to get on it in the nick of time. It was hilarious and definitely one of the highlights of our backpacking trip. Haha.

Lesson Learned:
Don't be stupid. Always double-check the information indicated in the ticket.
